3 Candidates, 8 Marriages
March 10, 2007
It interesting to note that the top three Republican presidential candidates have eight marriages between them. Each of them, of course, opposes marriage for same-sex couples on the grounds that it would degrade the institution of marriage. Cause, you know, informing your wife that you are trading her in for a new model via a press conference or while she is in a hospital bed with cancer is helping to sustain the “sanctity of marriage.”
Why can’t they just find a partner and stick with that person like Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon did? Del and Phyllis have been together for more than five decades, through richer and poorer, in sickness and in health, yet they don’t have the rights and responsibilities that Gingrich, Guiliani or McCain got in each of their multiple marriages.
And the leading Democrats are all weak on marriage equality as well. They talk a good game about hospital visitation, domestic partner benefits and such, but that’s not equal. Domestic partnerships and civil unions are nice in that they provide some benefits, they are ultimately separate and unequal.

Couldn’t agree with you more
We will not reach equality by relying on politicians (regardless of their party affiliation).

Yeah. As we all know, Bill and Hillary have a great marriage.
Where I come from, these people are called swingers.

Brent, whether or not the Clintons have a perfect marriage is not the point. They have stayed together through a lot of stuff both of their own making and stuff created by the right-wing nutcases.

You think that this is why they have stayed together? They barely see one another dude. They have stayed together for political purposes. I’m am pointing out the obvious that anyone with half of a brain can see through observation.
Stuff created by right-wing nutcases? So Bill Clinton was lying when he admitted having extra marital affairs?
Is anyone who disagrees with your extremist view a so-called nutcase?
