Andrew, Why So Bitter?

March 12, 2007

Andrew Sullivan continues to have a bug up his butt about the Human Rights Campaign. In a recent post he says that if the organization passes ENDA or the hate crimes bill that he will buy chocolate and roses.

How about getting off your ass Andrew and joining the fight? We can’t afford to have anyone sit on the sidelines it what could the biggest fight in the history of our movement for LGBT civil rights. You are a smart man and you have to realize what’s at stake here. Your snarkiness is hurting, not helping us.

It’s funny – that I’ve pointed that out to liberal bloggers ever since this Sanchez B.S. Surfaced. And I’ve been attacked by nothing but SNARK! And you’re gonna turn around and get on Sullivan!!!! C’mon. Bloggernista. I’ve only just discovered your blog; and enjoy your views. But how could you talk about ‘intramural bloodletting’ – and then write something like this. I agree that we all need to be on the same page. But what benefit is it doing to single out; one person (who isn’t in agreement)?

What do you want Andrew to do, other than shut his mouth? Buy a ticket to an HRC dinner? Wear one of their buttons?

Smiley, Andrew is not simply in disagreement with HRC. He is engaged in a vicious smear campaign against the organization. Its one thing to not agree with some of HRC’s strategies or tactics, but what Andrew is doing is different because of the unfair nature of his attacks and his unwillingness to credit HRC for the work it has done.

Its Andrew who has singled out HRC while not owning up to his part in actively helping to get George Bush and other gay-haters into office. He has spotlighted some important issues in his career, but this current obsession that he has with HRC is way off base. We don’t necessarily need to be on the same page, but it would make use much more of a powerful political force if we were at least reading from the same book.

That’s funny. It’s only smear because it does’t fit in with your scheme of thinking. But Sanchez isn’t smear, I guess, because he does fit in your thinking????
