No More Hot Air: Joe Biden Responds
March 31, 2007
I posted a video message to the presidential candidates about a week ago asking them to explain their plans to reduce carbon emissions 80% by the year 2050 as a way of stopping global warming. I emailed the message to the candidates and ask them to respond via Youtube so that Americans across the country could see their responses and gain insight on what importance the candidates placed on the issues of global warming and our country’s energy needs.
So far, Joe Biden’s campaign is the only one to respond (via email, not video) and his response pretty much avoids a leadership role by Americans in reducing carbon emissions.
Michael,
Thank you for sharing your concern over global warming with our campaign. Climate change is a pressing global threat that demands a bold and innovation strategy to meet the challenge. Joe Biden supports a “cap and trade” approach to regulating emissions and investment in technologies that can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
However, as global warming is a truly international issue, we must engage the rest of the world in this effort. Just today, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee passed Joe Biden and Senator Dick Lugar of Indiana’s resolution calling upon the President to enter into negotiations for a new climate change treaty. Bringing both “developing and developed” economies into a strong international framework is vital to securing our planet’s future. You can read more about Senator Biden’s resolution at http://www.joebiden.com/newscenter/pressreleases?id=0024.
Thanks again for your message and you can be sure that global warming is going to be one of the major issues of our campaign.
-Biden for President
Here is the video that I made. It lasts about a minute and a half. I used a simple web cam that’s attached to my Mac and uploaded it to Youtube. If we had more people making clear that “We need more than hot air on global warming,” then the candidates would not be able to ignore the question “What’s your plan for reducing carbon emissions 80% by the year 2050?” So send a message to the candidates. Tag your video “nohotair” so that we and the candidates will all know how many video messages are submitted.
In case you missed it: We Need More Than Hot Air on Global Warming
