Romney Continues Hating Gays
April 10, 2007
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney hates gay families and isn’t afraid to say so.
From the Union-Leader:
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney says his successor’s decision to recognize the Bay State marriages of out-of-state gay couples reinforces a need for a federal constitutional amendment establishing marriage as being between a man and a woman.
“As the governor of Massachusetts having seen the advent of same-sex marriage in my state, and recognizing that with the new governor, people are going to be coming to Massachusetts, getting married in Massachusetts and then going home to their home states, it strikes me that you have to have a national standard,” the Republican Presidential candidate said yesterday.
Yeah, Mitt, we need a national standard that discriminates against same-sex couples and their families. How about a national standard that seeks to regulate the number of marriages that adulterous heterosexuals like Newt Gingrich, Rudy Guiliani and John McCain can have?

It is a bit unfair to say Mitt hates gays because he opposes same sex marriage. It is also interesting that you use the discrimination language. Of course, I realize the ultimate goal of the gay community is to have sexual orientation become a protected status under the Constitution, but that doesn’t really fit with the other categories. The national government has different incentives for all sorts of activities. It is not unreasonable to have incentives through tax breaks and other social benefits to encourage heterosexual couples to marry and have children. Having children is good for society. This is the primary reason those incentives are in place. You may disagree with this point of view, but please articulate to us why you believe there should be no special incentives to encourage and support heterosexual couples in having children. No, simply opining about the failed marriages of other people is not enough. Allowing them to divorce doesn’t undermine our policy objectives.
