Don’t Believe the Ex-Gay Hype

As ex-gay loonies work feverishly to put anti-gay coal in our holiday stockings, Truth Wins Out has released two innovative web ads slamming the “pray away the gay” rhetoric that many of us will hear from family members during this supposed time of peace and love. Truth Wins Out is a national organization dedicated to challenging ex-gay propaganda and telling the truth about the lives of LGBT people.

The first as entitled Bald takes on a lie told on national television by Exodus International’s executive director Alan Chambers who also appears to be a seriously screaming queen.

What I found was that homosexuality was for the young,” said Chambers. “There was a time when I wasn’t going to have hair anymore. There was a time when I wasn’t going to work out every day, and lay out in the sun, and be as much a commodity as I was when I was eighteen.

Does this mean, Alan, that your “ex-gay conversion” was really about your fear of men not finding you hot? Please Mary! We all have body image issues and its not cause we’re gay. Its because we’re human.

In response to this ridiculous claim Nick Cavner, a 56 year old ex-ex-gay says “It’s great out here.”

The second ad features Dallas ex-gay survivor Brian Nesbitt, who was urged by his therapist to wear a rubber band on his wrist and snap it whenever he saw an attractive guy.

Umm okay. I am guessing that that advice was based on scientific inquiry approved by the Bush administration and its was on science.

What Brian found out is that

Ex-gay therapy is harmful, ineffective and a waste of time and money. I’m glad I snapped out of it.
