Gays Won’t Let Friends Vote McCain

Just as friends don’t let friends drive drunk, we should declare right here, right now that as LGBT people we won’t let our friends vote McCain. At least not without a fight.

If you think I am overstating the importance of this, watch this video by the Human Rights Campaign on McCain’s long record of opposition to LGBT equality.

I understand that voting is a personal thing, but it is critical that we let our friends, family and co-workers know how much a McCain/Palin administration would hurt us and our families.

Find Your Center at the DC Center

I have lived in Washington, DC for nearly nine years and for much of that time I have been involved with the LGBT community initially as a pro-mo (professional homosexual) and lately on a volunteer level. In that time I can honestly say that one of the most exciting projects I have been involved with is serving on the board of directors of The DC Center.

The mission of The DC Center is to celebrate, strengthen, and support community among the GLBT residents and organizations of Metropolitan Washington, DC.

While we may not be as big or as well known as some of our sister community centers in cities like Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco, we provide a number of amazing programs that the LGBT community can’t find anywhere else in the District. Stay tuned for more exciting news about The DC Center including information on an upcoming community survey and details for relocating The DC Center to a newer, more accessible location.

After the jump are details on The DC Center’s main programs.

Are Gays the “Bomb?”

Moments after I wrote a post for LGBT for Obama about John McCain saying that he had never heard the acronym “LGBT” my friend Bil Browning of Bilerico posted this video of Margaret Cho detailing the history of the U.S. military’s planning for a “gay bomb.”

What, you may ask, is a “gay bomb?” Well, silly, it is a bomb that when dropped on the enemy would turn them into feather boa wearing, Barbra Streisand loving, Pride parade marching, mimosa sipping, finger snapping homosexuals.

I, and Margaret, kid you not. This was something that the Pentagon considered spending $7.5 million dollars to develop.

Paris Hilton Responds to John McCain “Celebrity” Ad

Who know that Paris Hilton could come off as smart? This fake campaign ad in response to John McCain’s attack ad against Barack Obama is hysterical.

I’ll see you at the debates bitches!

John McCain Wants a Piece of This?

I know it’s cruel to place videos of speeches by Barack Obama and John McCain side by side, but John McCain is asking for it. McCain has challenged Obama to a series of ten town hall meetings so that they can go mano a mano on on policy issues big and small.

Republican Sen. John McCain challenged his Democratic rival, Sen. Barack Obama, to a series of 10 joint town hall meetings, starting next week in New York City, and said the American people deserve “a new tenor” in its presidential campaigns.

Less than a day after Obama clinched the Democratic nomination, McCain delivered a letter to his campaign, formally proposing what he had raised last month. In the letter, he proposed that the two men fly to the first town hall meeting in the same plane as symbol that they are “embracing the politics of civility.”

As a stronger supporter of Obama, I say “bring it on.”

HRC Report on John McCain’s Opposition to LGBT Rights

The Human Rights Campaign PAC has released a blistering report on Republican presidential candidate John McCain’s pathetic record on LGBT civil rights. The report entitled John McCain: A Record of Opposing the Interests of GLBT Americans shows that while McCain maybe be a “straight” talker, he is no maverick when it comes to supporting the right of LGBT Americans to equal treatment under the law.

I said it before and I will say it again there is no defending John McCain on gay issues.

Some highlights from Senator John McCain: A Record of Opposing the Interests of GLBT Americans are after the jump.

10 Gay Documentaries Everyone Should See

As an antidote to the straight-washed version of history foisted on us by traditional media and educational institutions, I present to you 10 Gay Documentaries Everyone Should See. These ten films only begin to scratch the surface of the rich and amazing history of LGBT people. Find out more at the GLBT Historical Society.

Also check out 10 Films Every Gay Boy Should See and 10 Books Every Gay Boy Should Read.

If you have other suggestions of gay documentaries that people should see, leave the titles in the comments section.

1. Before Stonewall – shows that gay history did not begin with the Stonewall Riots, but in fact existed far before it. Through the use of archival footage and interviews, the film shows vividly what life was like when gays were forced to hide their sexuality for fear of reprisals.

Barack Obama Returns to Iowa

Barack Obama delivered an amazing speech in Iowa last night. He traces the journey of the campaign from the beginning when few believed that he had a chance at winning the nomination to now when he is the presumptive Democratic nominee for the presidency.

In this speech Barack shows again why he is the president that we need now to help lift the country from the wreckage of nearly eight years under George Bush.

The full text of Barack Obama’s speech in Iowa is after the jump.
