Possible Hate Crime Death

UPDATE: Greenville County deputies have made an arrest in the murder Sean William Kennedy outside of a bar, but the investigation into whether it was a hate crime isn’t over.

20 year old Sean William Kennedy died from an assault that is being investigated as a possible hate crime in South Carolina.

Deputies said Sean William Kennedy, 20, was walking from the bar to his car when another car pulled up. Someone jumped out and punched Kennedy and then took off. Kennedy fell to the ground, and deputies said that they believe he hit his head on the parking lot pavement or a curb.

Kennedy’s friends believe that his being gay was the cause of the attack.

Of course, the homo-hating wing-nuts and their Republican congressional minions are fighting tooth and nail to derail passage of the federal hate crimes bill.

How can anyone in their right minds not be outraged by this?

This is a random attack, even if it’s on someone for being Gay. No amount of Law would stop it. Issues of hate run deeper than any law can speak to. Now if one could address the things that make such hatred legitimate in the eyes of the perpetrator of such a crime…

Falwell being dead is a good start

Too bad the gay victim wasn’t armed. He could’ve dropped his attackers with a couple of well-placed bullets between their eyes.

@Paul, I agree that a hate crimes law would not have prevented this attack. I still find the fact that elected officials and some religious won’t even say something as simple as LGBT people should not be beaten for being LGBT outrageous. Its shows how hateful and bigoted they are and how far we have to go.

@Christopher, we definitely need some form of self-protection. I am not sure that guns are the answer, but need to figure out something.

I read how back in the 1970s, gay men were being set upon in San Francisco by crazed homophobes in the city’s Mission district.

Then a couple of men — partners, in fact, and lived in the area, decided to carry a few feet of steel chain just in case they were attacked. Good thing they did because a gang of hoodlums cornered them on the way back from getting a hamburger. The gay guys beat the fucking shit out of them.

No one is going to make a victim of me or my partner. If they try, they’re going to be in for a huge surprise. 😉

Its absolutely crazy. The craven right-wing hate machine and their Republican buddies are to blame for continuing to whip up a homo-hating frenzy in order to build their political power.
