Dems Cave on Iraq

The Democrats have a majority in both chambers of Congress and face a president with a 30% approval rating, so why did they cave on demanding a withdrawal time table from Iraq?

From the New York Times:

Congressional Democrats relented today on their insistence that a war spending measure sought by President Bush also set a date for withdrawing troops from Iraq. The decision to back down, described by senior lawmakers and aides, , was a wrenching reversal for some Democrats, who saw their election triumph as a call to force an end to the war. A Democratic effort to include timelines prompted Mr. Bush’s veto of the original bill last month, producing a political impasse.

I wish that I could say that this is surprising, but it really isn’t. What is it going to take for the Dems to grow a spine?

Sorry, they are not in any way in a “caving.” I think it has taken them a lot of spin to finally show they ahd no intention of stopping this war (or as we say in Brooklyn dthey gotta big set of balls to pull this crap!) If they really want to stop this war they need exactly ZERO votes to do it. They ONLY NEED VOTES TO SPEND MONEY! They need no votes TO NOT SPEND MONEY! They can easily refuse to allow ANY BILL WITH WAR FUNDING on to the floor for a vote. This KILLS BILLS DEAD EVERY DAY! The dems refused to bring HR 635 to the floor for a vote, so it’s DEAD. HR 635 would have instituted a full investigation of the bush crime family for grounds leading to impeachment. The dems KILLED DEAD, HR 746 (formally HR 4232) by not allowing it to be brought to the floor for a vote. HR 746 called for a full, immediate and complete withdrawal of US forces. If you wanna know where votes can be used, the senate can filibuster a bill with just 41 votes. The dems have more then that. The dems in the senate can simply announce that they will filibuster ANY BILL THAT CONTAINS WAR FUNDING! The dems plan is to use this “we don’t have the votes” nonsense to con you all into voting for them AGAIN just like they conned you in November 2006. The real answer is to vote for “third party” candidates come the next election. VOTE FOR ANYONE NOT A DEM OR REPUB! A pox on both their houses!

I am preparing to join the 45% of voters who no longer identify with either party and become a registered Independent.

It’s now clear neither Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reid have the cajones needed to stand up to the Motherfucker from Midland. The Democrats are as hapless as they are clueless and what they really care about is, winning the White House in 2008.

But, contrary to the opinion of many, the American people are smart and voters may have an election surprise waiting for the party who failed to go mano-e-mano with Bushco and end the war in Iraq.
