Military Draft a Possibility

August 11, 2007 at 4:36 pm 1 comment

As if four years of war in Iraq weren’t bad enough, now we have General David Petraeus talking about the possibility of an additional ten years or more in Iraq. And to fill the ranks of the U.S. military that has been depleted by George Bush’s war, newly installed “war czar” Lt. Gen. Douglas Lute has this to say about a possible draft:

“I think it makes sense to certainly consider it,” Army Lt. Gen. Douglas Lute said in an interview with National Public Radio’s “All Things Considered.””And I can tell you, this has always been an option on the table. But ultimately, this is a policy matter between meeting the demands for the nation’s security by one means or another,” Lute added in his first interview since he was confirmed by the Senate in June.

Its pretty safe to say that in the event of a draft that the sons and daughters of the rich and powerful conservatives who are opposing an end to the war will not be among those shipped overseas to fight and possibly die to save Bush’s pride.

Here is a new web ad by Americans Against Escalation in War that points out what this endless war will mean and why it has to end.
