Congress’ Approval at Historic Low

August 21, 2007 at 8:25 am 2 comments

The approval rating for Congress is tied for its lowest ever in Gallup poll history. Only 19% of Americans approve of the job that Congress is doing and 3/4 of the people polled disapprove of the job that their own Congress person is doing. Amazing.

How much of this is related to the ongoing and disastrous war in Iraq, the seemingly endless series of scandals and the obstructionist tactics Republicans are using to prevent pretty much anything from being done?

So true. I know my own congress women is off raising money for her next campaign after she promised she would get some work done. Truth be said, miss Gillibrand is never there. I understand the house only gives 2 year appointments, but wouldn’t you hold off on raising money untill the last year of your term? How can you start campaigning when you haven’t done anything yet?

Part of the problem is that it takes so much money to run for Congress. If you are not wealthy and able to independently finance your own campaigns, you are in a never ending fundraising cycle.
