Larry Craig: I am Not Gay; I Have Never Been Gay

August 28, 2007 at 9:36 pm 10 comments

Watching Republican Senator Larry Craig try to barricade his closet door shut is a sad and pathetic sight. He can claim all he wants that he is not gay, but I have yet to meet or even hear about a straight man cruising public bathrooms for a little touch and tickle.

From the vitriol with which he pronounces the word “gay,” its as though he finds the very concept to be something disgusting and beneath contempt. I see Larry Craig and I thank God that I had the courage to come out of the closet and be honest about about being gay.

In his statement which can be found here, Craig admits that he made a poor decision. But he gets it wrong. His “poor decision” was not pleading guilty when he was arrested, it was and still is not being honest about who he is.

The lives of bitter, angry and self-hating people like Craig, Ted Haggard, Mark Foley, Bob Allen and others should be held up as examples of the destructive nature of the closet. Young people should be shown their images and stories so that they understand corrosive impact that living a life of denial can.

I, too, am thankful that you and I both have the courage to live our lives openly. Perhaps we are braver men than some of these Senators? 😆

You know the guy missed the whole point, no one gives a rats ass if he’s gay. They care about him pleading guilty and then saying it was poor judgment.
Typical GOP reaction; cover up and then point the finger of blame somewhere else, “the newspaper made me do it.” Give me a freaking break.

And he claimed that he made the “poor decision” because he did not have a lawyer. He has been in the Senate for 27 years. He should have known to have call a lawyer. Everyone knows that you don’t issue a plea without a lawyer’s advice.

    His excuses are incredibly lame.

These right-winger scandals shine the light on the origins of the extreme level of hate they spew — although their hateful words are publically directed at us in the community, it all truly stems from their own self-loathing.

    Pathetic. And very very sad.

Its truly pathetic. Craig is a powerful politician and most likely financially well off and he is clinging to the closet like a terrified baby. Contrast that with this story from April in which a teenager came out in the New York Times: http://bloggernista.com/2007/04/03/this-is-what-really-matters/

Okay. He says he’s not gay. I can accept that. But I have yet to see or hear anywhere the logical next question: Are you bisexual?

Any seriously how many closeted gay people have said ‘I’m not gay” when asked? I denied being gay years ago until I came out at 15 years old.

[…] D.C. Man Had Sex with Larry Craig Posted on October 26, 2007 by Michael Crawford As if we needed an even more evidence that Republican senator Larry Craig is willing to screw gay men while screwing us over, comes this revelation by a D.C. man that he had sex with Mr. I’m Not Gay. […]
