Republicans and the Rest of Us

So the Republicans dissed the gays and the African-Americans by refusing to participate in presidential forums focused on those communities and now everyone but John McCain has refused an invitation to appear at a Latino/a debate:

“It’s not just that they are not coming. It’s that some of them are visibly insulting us,” Munoz said, noting the party’s vitriolic message against legal and illegal immigrants in the presidential campaign and also on Capitol Hill, where Republicans are trying to introduce anti-immigrant language into unrelated measures.

“It’s very hard to imagine how some of these candidates are going to turn around and ask us for our vote” when the eventual GOP nominee is facing the Democrat in the general election, Munoz said. “It’s tremendously distressing and it’s not just immigrations who are feeling this disrespect,” she added.

That’s so not a smart strategy when the country is becoming more diverse by the minute. By operating in almost a whites only mentality, the GOP is dooming itself to minority party status.

That is almost funny. He sounds surprised. I wonder what it would be like if a candidate didn’t insult the LGBT community. For that matter, Democrat or Republican.

You’re right, Michael. The GOP standard of white, right-wing Christian men is sickeningly out of date with our modern society.

And, the don’t seem to get that their allegiance to this reactionary and divisive thinking will doom them to minority party status.
