Will Republicans Condemn Rush Limbaugh’s Slur Against American Troops?

Do Republican senators agree with Rush Limbaugh that Iraq war vets who come home and speak out against the are “phony soldiers?” That’s the only message that we can take from their resounding silence regarding Limbaugh’s comment from the September 26 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show.

LIMBAUGH: “Save the — keep the troops safe” or whatever. I — it’s not possible, intellectually, to follow these people.

CALLER 2: No, it’s not, and what’s really funny is, they never talk to real soldiers. They like to pull these soldiers that come up out of the blue and talk to the media.

LIMBAUGH: The phony soldiers.

CALLER 2: The phony soldiers. If you talk to a real soldier, they are proud to serve. They want to be over in Iraq. They understand their sacrifice, and they’re willing to sacrifice for their country.

The same members of Congress who jumped all over MoveOn for their “General Petraeus or General Betray Us?” ad must now condemn Rush for his disgusting slur against American servicemembers. As Iraq war vet Soltz points out in a post on Huffington Post,

First, in what universe is a guy who never served even close to being qualified to judge those who have worn the uniform? Rush Limbaugh has never worn a uniform in his life — not even one at Mickey D’s — and somehow he’s got the moral standing to pass judgment on the men and women who risked their lives for this nation, and his right to blather smears on the airwaves?

Limbaugh sits in the comfort of his plush radio studio passing judgement on the patriotism of American soldiers who return from Iraq and advocate withdrawal while he has never served a day in uniform. Its what people like him do best.

As Iraq war vet and member of Congress Patrick Murphy says:

Someone should tell chicken-hawk Rush Limbaugh that the only phonies are those who choose not to serve and then criticize those who do. I served proudly, so did two of my fellow paratroopers in the 82nd Airborne who spoke out and died just weeks ago. Generations of American veterans have worn the uniform with pride and we know it is no contradiction to serve your country and still disagree with the Bush-civilian leadership that mismanaged this war
