Hip Hop Caucus has launched a massive voter registration and education campaign aimed at igniting a new wave of civic participation and voting among young people. Hip Hop Vote 2008 will focus on politically empowering young people in urban communities and communities of color in seventeen key states.

In each of the seventeen targeted states voter registration drives will combine old-fashioned press-flesh tactics with the best technologies and practices, while also bringing a new level of accountability and measurability based on lessons learned in the 2004 elections.

At Hip Hop Vote “Town Hall Meetings,” major celebrities, artists, DJs, and national and local leaders will address large crowds of young people about the importance of voting, civic engagement and knowing the issues that affect our communities.

Hip Hop Caucus is headed by Rev. Lennox Yearwood aka “Hip Hop Rev.” Rev has worked with Russell Simmon’s Hip Hop Action Network, P Diddy’s Vote or Die campaign, SMACKDOWN the Vote and other efforts to amplify the voices of urban young people.

Hip Hop Vote 2008 will build off the lessons learned in those previous campaigns to reach at least 1,000,000 people directly and more than 4,000,000 urban youth indirectly, via rallies, training sessions, community canvassing, postcard and cell phone blasts, audio and video PSA messages, town hall meetings and university campus events.

Here is Rev evangelizing Hip Hop Caucus’ message of Make Hip Hop, Not War:

    Democracy 2.0 Declaration – Mobilize.org

On Thursday, October 4th, 2007, 50 youth leaders worked together at the Democracy 2.0 Summit in Washington D.C. The Summit, a national movement instituted by Mobilize.org, is a way to bring attention to the ideas that America’s youth has to offer. Democracy 2.0 is designed to address the civic participation needs and interests of the Millennial Generation (targeting the 16-30 age group).

Mobilize.org has worked for the past year to survey young people about what they feel is an issue in both their own community and on a national level. This consensus among the youth of America has been addressed during the Summit in order to produce the Democracy 2.0 Declaration. This declaration represents what the youth believes is working and is not working in the current democracy of the U.S.

The declaration serves as a foundation for political candidates to understand what the youth of America feels strongly about. The Declaration will be shared with 435 youth representatives at Mobilize.org’s Party for the Presidency, an event in Hollywood, CA that will take place December 29-31.

Democracy 2.0 was launched to upgrade and renew our political process in America by providing guidelines for positive social change that take advantage of both the tremendous passion of today’s youth leaders and the powerful social networking and technology tools they are using to create communities.

Mobilize.org is here to listen and help instigate change within the youth of America. You can get involved by going to http://www.mobilize.org for more information.

This is even more good news, its only through coalition building, and mutual empowerment , that slowly but surely, the population as a whole will wake the fook up. Kids schooling their parents. So many parents , and older people, like this old battle ax, grew up nievely trusting our government…well those days are over..They got a long way to go to earn our trust again..and show us , they value the Constitution and value us people who live here in this over reaching empire…Thank you – youth for being so smart ! for caring so much. Its that energy, rage, modulated coalition building..that will help our out of control sitution with capitalism run amok. Go with your bad selves ! and good on ya !
