Al Gore Wins Nobel Peace Prize

Rumors have been swirling for days that former Vice-President Al Gore would win the Nobel Peace Prize for his extraordinary work to bring to light the problems of global climate change. Those rumors have turned out to be true.

From the Politico:

Vice President Al Gore was named joint winner of Nobel Peace Prize for his dogged – now celebrated – work to bring attention to global warming.

Gore shared the prize with the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

The citation praised him and the U.N. panel for their effort to “disseminate information about man-made climate change,” — in the former vice-president’s case, most notably with his book and movie, “An Inconvenient Truth.”

Its been an amazing journey for Gore since he won, but was denied, the presidency by the conservatives on the Supreme Court. He has won an Oscar, help to create Current TV, become an adviser to Apple and Google, was the star of the highest grossing documentary in U.S. history and now comes the Nobel Prize.

There are other rumors that he will not seek the presidency. I hope that these rumors provide to be false.

UPDATE: Gore statement on winning the Nobel Prize:

I am deeply honored to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. This award is even more meaningful because I have the honor of sharing it with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change–the world’s pre-eminent scientific body devoted to improving our understanding of the climate crisis–a group whose members have worked tirelessly and selflessly for many years. We face a true planetary emergency. The climate crisis is not a political issue, it is a moral and spiritual challenge to all of humanity. It is also our greatest opportunity to lift global consciousness to a higher level.

My wife, Tipper, and I will donate 100 percent of the proceeds of the award to the Alliance for Climate Protection, a bipartisan non-profit organization that is devoted to changing public opinion in the U.S. and around the world about the urgency of solving the climate crisis.

I’m thrilled and I’m full of hope.

My fingers are crossed and I’m sending good thoughts Gore’s way!

I have to say that I am rubbing my prayer beads like an Italian grandmother at confession. A Gore-Obama ticket would make me almost as happy as a marriage proposal from Milo Ventimiglia.
