Harry Potter Character Outted
In a move reminiscent of blogger/activist and Bilerico contributor Mike Rogers, J.K. Rowlings creator of the Harry Potter series has outted Professor Albus Dumbledore. Dumbldore, as I am sure that you know, is the master wizard who is headmaster of Hogwarts.
After a reading at Carnegie Hall, Rowlings was asked a question by a fan:
She was asked by one young fan whether Dumbledore finds “true love.”
“Dumbledore is gay,” the author responded to gasps and applause.
She then explained that Dumbledore was smitten with rival Gellert
Grindelwald, whom he defeated long ago in a battle between good and bad
wizards. “Falling in love can blind us to an extent,” Rowling said of
Dumbledore’s feelings, adding that Dumbledore was “horribly, terribly
Dumbledore’s love, she observed, was his “great tragedy.”
Rumors had been circulating for a while now about Dumbledore’s sexuality and fan fiction writers have created explicit scenes about the character.
Rowlings has said that she considers the Harry Potter series to be a “prolonged argument for tolerance.”
How long do you think it will take the anti-gay wingnuts to scream that Rowlings is trying to recruit kids to the Gay Side?
The clip below from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix shows that like any good gay Dumbledore has a flair for the dramatic and a sense of style.
