Obama Talks Gay Rights With MTV

On Monday Barack Obama participated in a campaign event sponsored by MTV and MySpace in Cedar Rapids, Iowa that enabled young voters to ask him questions. Obama was asked about his position on marriage for same-sex couples and the Donnie McClurkin fiasco.

Disclosure: I am a member of Barack Obama’s LGBT Policy Committee.

Here is what Barack had to say:

Obama (who I initially supported) can’t talk out of both sides of his mouth and dance with an antigay bigot and then say he’s pro-gay rights.

It’s sadly clear that Obama isn’t ready for primetime and according to an online poll I link to from 365gay.com, 85% of LGBT voters will not support him now.

    Including me.

This is really a tough one. I’ve struggled with how to handle this mess. Can you read my post on this and let me know if I’m totally off-the-mark?

I believe Obama is just trying to please everyone. I don’t believe he is any more “pro gay” than any other candidate. I think he is just trying to get the votes.

So McClurkin was just “one of many” singers at the event? That’s insulting spin. He was the emcee and ranted for a half an hour about this garbage, under Obama’s banner, unchallenged.

Since the McClurkin fiasco was supposedly such a terrific model for opening up dialogue, will the Obama campaign be inviting McClurkin back to continue the “dialogue” throughout the campaign? I imagine not.

These bullsh*t statements do nothing but rip the scab off the whole, sorry McClurkin fiasco. Better to just shut up entirely than continue insulting our intelligence like this.

As another commenter pointed out elsewhere, it looks like Obama would be another president with a congenital inability to admit when he makes a mistake.

I believe Obama is the better candidate. And Ted- he isn’t supporting gay rights to “please everyone.” If anything, more people in California are against gay rights then with them. So frankly, you don’t know what your talking about. GO OBAMA!
