Video: Donnie McClurkin: God Delivered Me From Homosexuality
“Ex-gay” gospel singer Donnie McClurkin can try as he might to justify his anti-gay rants, by using the weak ass “hate the sin, love the sinner” rhetoric, but he is in fact a homo-hater who has spoken out repeatedly against LGBT people. At the Barack Obama campaign event in South Carolina McClurkin, who also emceed the show, said to loud cheers from the audience:
I don’t speak at the homosexuals. I tell you God delivered me from homosexuality.
As if homosexuality was something that we needed to be delivered from, when what we really need to be delivered from is the rampant homophobia that people like McClurkin spread like a virus through African-American communities.
In his speech he talked about hypocrisy and especially hypocrisy in the church, when he is amongst the biggest of hypocrites after having had sex with men while preaching that homosexuality is a sin when in public.
What happened on that stage was inexcusable. He did a great disservice to the Obama campaign, he further marginalized Black LGBT people and he drove a further wedge between Black evangelicals and LGBT Americans. I don’t blame Obama for this, but he has to make sure that his campaign never makes this kind of mistake ever again.
