Republicans Can’t Quit Homo-Hating Rhetoric

The homo-hating ways of the Republican Party are on full display in the Kentucky governor’s race. Yesterday word broke about two anti-gay robo-calls recorded by faded pop singer Pat Boone that blanked the state with the question “‘Do you really want Kentucky to become another San Francisco?’

Now comes reports of another lowdown and dirty robo-call by groups supporting current governor Republican Ernie Fletcher who is being challenged by Democrat Steve Beshear. In the call for which no group is claiming responsibility a male voice claims to represent the “homosexual lobby.”

From the Lexington Herald-Leader:

The calls don’t identify who paid for the message, a potential violation of state election laws. However, spokesman Corey Bellamy said Monday the attorney general’s office had received no complaints about the calls.

The calls direct people to visit the Web site of the Fairness Campaign, an advocacy group for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people. The call does not mention Beshear’s opponent, Republican Gov. Ernie Fletcher.

Although the Fairness Campaign’s political action committee has endorsed Beshear, the group said in a statement that it had nothing to do with the calls.

“For the first time in 20 years the homosexual lobby proudly endorses a candidate for governor, Steve Beshear,” the male voice on the calls says. “Beshear is receiving major support from out-of-state gay activists.”

This is further evidence of the GOP’s insatiable appetite for divisive wedge issues and underscores their complete lack of an agenda for moving forward.

The election is scheduled for today.

That’s the Republican State’s Attorney General, right? What, did you forget The Law is dead? It’s been usurped by Politics. I have a bigger question, though. Why is being gay, supporting the gay agenda, or the so-called homosexual lobby still considered a bad thing? If you changed the word “gay” to “female” for instance, none of this stupidity would even be happening. Am I wrong?
