Joe Lieberman to Endorse John McCain

Marc Ambinder is reporting that Joe Lieberman is going to endorse John McCain tomorrow. If that’s true, is it a sign that Lieberman is ready to come out of the closet about a Republican?

I asked this question in all seriousness because I would think that the first rule of being a Democrat is to help elect Democrats. And, in a political climate were the Democrats have a strong shot at regaining control of the White House and expanding their majorities in the House and Senate no real Democrat would be endorsing a presidential candidate from the Republican Party.

Lieberman’s schtick about being an “independent Democrat” smacks too much like some gay boys who claim to be bisexual until they work up the courage to come out as gay. Unfortunately with the Democrats having a razor thin majority in the Senate they are unlikely to tell Lieberman to take a hike.
