Fox News Host Makes Fun of Heath Ledgers Death, Then Sort of Apologizes
Fox News host John Gibson mocked the death of Heath Ledger and his appearance in Brokeback Mountain in an ugly display of bad taste on his radio show on Tuesday.
Opening his radio show with funeral music yesterday, Fox News host John Gibson callously mocked the death of actor Heath Ledger, calling him a “weirdo” with a “serious drug problem.”
Playing an audio clip of the iconic quote, “I wish I knew how to quit you” from Ledger’s gay romance movie Brokeback Mountain, Gibson disdainfully quipped, “Well, he found out how to quit you.” Laughing, Gibson then played another clip from Brokeback Mountain in which Ledger said, “We’re dead,” followed by his own, mocking “We’re dead” before playing the clip again.
You can listen to the clip here.
After a huge outcry Gibson made a weak semi-apology on his Fox News show saying
I’m sorry some took my comments as anti-gay and insensitive.
Once again, to anyone offended by my comments I’m sorry.
In other words, he sees absolutely nothing wrong with making fun of a young man who had just died likely of an accidental overdose or suicide and mocking his appearance in a highly regarded film because of its gay content.
John Gibson has proven himself yet again to fit right in with the brand of self-righteous intolerance and arrogance that Fox News peddles as “fair and balanced.”
