Fox News Host Makes Fun of Heath Ledgers Death, Then Sort of Apologizes

Fox News host John Gibson mocked the death of Heath Ledger and his appearance in Brokeback Mountain in an ugly display of bad taste on his radio show on Tuesday.

Opening his radio show with funeral music yesterday, Fox News host John Gibson callously mocked the death of actor Heath Ledger, calling him a “weirdo” with a “serious drug problem.”

Playing an audio clip of the iconic quote, “I wish I knew how to quit you” from Ledger’s gay romance movie Brokeback Mountain, Gibson disdainfully quipped, “Well, he found out how to quit you.” Laughing, Gibson then played another clip from Brokeback Mountain in which Ledger said, “We’re dead,” followed by his own, mocking “We’re dead” before playing the clip again.

You can listen to the clip here.

After a huge outcry Gibson made a weak semi-apology on his Fox News show saying

I’m sorry some took my comments as anti-gay and insensitive.

Once again, to anyone offended by my comments I’m sorry.

In other words, he sees absolutely nothing wrong with making fun of a young man who had just died likely of an accidental overdose or suicide and mocking his appearance in a highly regarded film because of its gay content.

John Gibson has proven himself yet again to fit right in with the brand of self-righteous intolerance and arrogance that Fox News peddles as “fair and balanced.”

Why are we always saying we are sorry lately ? I thought for good or bad we were a country of free speech .I guess its ok for so called artists to put a crucifix of Christ in a glass of urine and call it art, or for Hollywood to constantly use the lords name in vain in their movies,( remember when we object to the perverted ,vulgar filth Hollywood puts out we are told its freedom of speech and to just turn the channel or dont watch it) So its alright in this country to make fun of christians but not gays, jews ect… I have a great idea! Lets not make fun of anyone and build this country up again side by side.

You aren’t defending John Gibson’s comments making light of Heath’s death are you? That would be pretty perverted in my book.

If you think you see people making fun of Christians, then maybe you should look at the Christians who are being made fun of. Many who call themselves Christians today are doing nothing more than using the Bible to justify their on prejudices and to try and force the rest of us to live by their beliefs.
