There was another time, when another young candidate was running for president and challenging America to cross a new frontier. He faced criticism from the preceding Democratic president, who was widely respected in the party. And John Kennedy replied, “The world is changing. The old ways will not do. … It is time for a new generation of leadership.”So it is with Barack Obama.

With these words, Senator Ted Kennedy today issued a ringing endorsement of Barack Obama’s campaign for the presidency. Senator Kennedy is the brother of president John F. Kennedy and Robert F. Kennedy and one of the most respected members of the Senate.Senator Kennedy’s endorsement came shortly after two other members of the Kennedy family, Caroline Kennedy and Representative Patrick Kennedy endorsed Obama.Kennedy’s endorsed is a particular blow to Hillary Clinton who had aggressively sought Kennedy’s endorsement. In the last several days Clinton mounted a fierce campaign to woo Kennedy including having former president Bill Clinton call him personally.
