Civil Rights Hero John Lewis Switches from Clinton to Obama

Congressman John Lewis, one of the key figures in the civil rights movement, announced that he is switching his support from Hillary Clinton to Barack Obama. Lewis, a super delegate, had previously endorsed Clinton. This switch is a huge blow to Clinton and is a further sign that her campaign is on its last legs.

In a written statement, Lewis said Obama’s campaign “represents the beginning of a new movement in American political history” and that he wants “to be on the side of the people.”

“After taking some time for serious reflection on this issue, I have decided that when I cast my vote as a superdelegate at the Democratic convention, it is my duty … to express the will of the people,” the statement said.

Lewis’ endorsement had been a coveted prize among the Democratic candidates thanks to his standing as one of the most prominent civil rights leaders of the 1960s.

“John Lewis is an American hero and a giant of the civil rights movement, and I am deeply honored to have his support,” Obama said in a statement. Obama said Wednesday night that he had yet to speak with Lewis about his decision. “I think it’s very nice. It’s appreciated,” he said of Lewis’ support.

Ok, I’m really convinced this is your first presidential election. “Last legs”? Okay, it may be.

Curiously, it seems you never ever mention John McCain (or Romney when he ran) or the GOP, or their anti-gay or anti-black policies. Aren’t they the enemy?

I know more about politics than you might think. If you think I haven’t criticized McCain and Romney for being anti-gay and anti-Black do a quick search of my blog and you will see differently.

I have said before that I will support Hillary if she wins the nomination, but I believe that Barack will be better at leading the country.
